A bit about the process

Alternative firing is very exciting and impossible to predict the outcomes. Scroll down to see pots available for sale.

All the pots are decorative only, not useable for food or liquid.

Obvara Firing

With the Obvara technique the pot is taken from the kiln from 700 - 900C  and plunged into a yeast/flour/water mixture and then immediately into cold water. It is an organic-like purely decorative finish.

Raku Firing

The Raku technique is essentially when glazed ceramics are taken from the kiln while they are still glowing red hot and are then placed in a material that would be able to catch fire, such as sawdust or newspaper. This technique is used to starve the piece of oxygen, which creates a myriad of colors within the glaze.

Horse Hair Firing

Horse hair firing is a method of decorating pottery through the application of horsehair and other dry carbonaceous material, such as feathers, to the heated ware. The burning carbonaceous material creates smoke patterns and carbon trails on the surface of the heated ware that remain as decoration after the ware cools.

Suzy Birstein Sculpture

Suzy Birstein is an artist that lives and works in Vancover, B.C.  Suzy instructed a workshop for the Wyndell Mudders a few years ago... this sculpture was made by her and bisqued at that time.  We asked her if we could raku fire it and use it as a GRAND RAFFLE PRIZE for Creston Clay Fest 2025 - and she graciously agreed.

Make sure you enter the raffle for a chance to win this amazing sculpture.
